Ecuador: Mining and Energy Gain Momentum on the Investment Agenda

Derecho Corporativo Ecuador / Blog / Ecuador: Mining and Energy Gain Momentum on the Investment Agenda

The recent visit of President Daniel Noboa to China has once again placed mining and energy at the forefront of Ecuador’s efforts to attract international investment.

In mining, Ecuador currently has two industrial mines in production and six medium- and large-scale mining projects under development, representing approximately USD 12 billion in projected investment.

New investment and exploration initiatives are also emerging, including the agreement announced between ENAMI EP and Solaris Resources.

In the energy sector, Ecuador maintains a predominantly hydro-based electricity matrix: in 2025, 84.48% of CELEC EP’s electricity generation came from hydropower. At the same time, the Government has announced plans to add 2,100 MW of new generation capacity through three projects scheduled for 2026.

What does this mean for investors?

The potential is there, both in mining and energy. But turning an opportunity into an investment requires much more than identifying a project.

It requires a thorough understanding of the regulatory framework, corporate structuring, due diligence processes, legal risks, and the conditions for operating in Ecuador.

At Arízaga Abogados, we believe that developing strategic sectors requires connecting international capital, projects, and local expertise.

Ecuador has opportunities.
Investment requires confidence.
Confidence is built through structure and experience.
